how the deadline is worked out

your deadline isn't 17 November 2026 — it's usually sooner.

Under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act, identity verification at Companies House has been mandatory since 18 November 2025, with a 12-month transition period ending 17 November 2026. Most people assume the transition end is their deadline. For nearly everyone, the real date arrives earlier — and this tool finds it.

Two rules decide your date:

  • Directorsverify by their company's next confirmation statement on or after 18 November 2025. Direct several companies and the earliest confirmation statement is your first hard deadline — the number most people miss.
  • PSCs who aren't directors verify within the first 14 days of their birth month. If you're both a PSC and a director of the same company, the confirmation statement date governs instead.

The tool reads the free Companies House Public Data API to pull confirmation statement dates and every appointment a person holds, then computes the earliest deadline across all of them — something a status checker can't do. As of the end of June 2026 only around 55% of directors had verified, so the queue is real. Figures here are indicative; always confirm your date and complete verification through GOV.UK.

identity verification deadlines — frequently asked questions

When do I need to verify my identity at Companies House?

Identity verification became mandatory on 18 November 2025, with a 12-month transition period ending 17 November 2026. If you're an existing director, your deadline is the date of your company's next confirmation statement on or after 18 November 2025 — you verify when you file it. If you're a person with significant control (PSC) but not a director, you verify within the first 14 days of your birth month. Everyone in scope must be verified by 17 November 2026.

What is the director identity verification deadline?

For an existing director, the deadline is your company's next confirmation statement date falling on or after 18 November 2025. You must have verified your identity — and obtained your Companies House personal code — by the time that confirmation statement is filed. If you direct more than one company, you'll need to verify for each, and the earliest confirmation statement date is your first hard deadline. This calculator works out that earliest date for you.

I'm a director of several companies — which deadline applies first?

The earliest one. Each company has its own confirmation statement date, and you must be verified by each. Because your identity only needs verifying once (you get a single personal code), the practical deadline is the earliest confirmation statement across all your appointments. Enter each company — or look yourself up by name — and the tool returns the earliest binding date.

How does the deadline work for a PSC who isn't a director?

A person with significant control who does not sit on the board verifies within the first 14 days of their birth month, not on the confirmation statement date. Companies House only records your birth month and year, so if your birth month is March, your window is 1–14 March. During the transition that window falls in 2026 for most months (December birth months fall in December 2025). If you're both a PSC and a director of the same company, the confirmation statement date drives your deadline instead.

What happens if I miss the verification deadline?

Companies House has said enforcement begins after the transition period ends on 17 November 2026. Failing to verify can become a criminal offence, can prevent you from filing (including your confirmation statement), and can lead to financial penalties and annotations on the register. As of the end of June 2026 only around 55% of directors had verified, so a large number of people are leaving it late — checking your exact date now avoids a last-minute scramble.

What is a Companies House personal code?

It's the code you get once you've verified your identity — either directly through GOV.UK One Login or via an authorised agent (ACSP). You then provide that personal code against each role you hold (director and/or PSC) at each company. One verification produces one personal code that covers all your appointments; you supply it separately for each role.

Where does this tool get its data?

The live lookup reads the free Companies House Public Data API — the same public register anyone can search — to pull each company's confirmation statement date, its officers and PSCs, and every appointment a person holds. From that it computes the per-person earliest deadline. You can also enter your dates manually without any lookup. Figures are indicative; always confirm against your own Companies House record.
